But what exactly is ‘Slow Tourism’?
Slow tourism is the art of travelling at a leisurely pace, fully immersing oneself in the natural surroundings and the richness of the local heritage. It means prioritising meaningful encounters and savouring the delights of the table, whilst showing respect for the local area and its inhabitants.
A while ago, we welcomed a young entrepreneur to the Moulin du Boisset who had set up a start-up offering ‘Slow Tourism’ holidays online.
His approach involved spending four days exploring our region to discover the local tourist sites and stakeholders, with a view to developing a package for the Dordogne.
Listening to him, what he was trying to offer was nothing more and nothing less than a very limited version of what we have been doing since we opened in 2016, without our many years of experience and presence in the region.
That is why we certainly know better than anyone else how to talk to you about ‘Slow Tourism’, far removed from mass tourism.
We are able to offer you itineraries based on exploring our region’s heritage and culture. We can point you towards the most beautiful walks, our little-known hidden gems, and our most stunning views. We’ll introduce you to local producers and farmers, who’ll be delighted to share their expertise with you. We’ll recommend the finest restaurants to delight your taste buds and treat you to the best of our local cuisine.
But above all, we’ll make time our priority. There’s no point in rushing, because as we say here: “You have to take the time to take your time”!
